Siegfried

Attended the new Siegfried at San Francisco Opera. There was
not a really weak performer in the cast, although most of us are
used to a more “nasal” “wimpy” voice for Mime. There was not
enough differentiation between the voices of Siegfried and Mime.
Much of the drama of the forging scene was lost because the
forge was set towards the back of the stage.

This modern production, emphasizing a post industrial wasteland, was very effective; however I was horrified at the almost unbelievable, stupefying $24,000,000 cost of this extravaganza. How long can these expensive productions be sustained? If people demand this sort of visually magnificent entertainment will it all gravitate to the movie screen? However to help with the funding they might consider some “product placement”, movie style.

I thought of a few fund raising opportunities as follows:-

Siegfried, Mime and the Wanderer were constantly quenching their thirst from cans and bottles: “Diet Coke” and “Budweiser” perhaps? Tires “Goodrich” I guess? Small fridge “Frigidaire” A shopping cart “Safeway”. A monstrous piece of what looked like earth moving equipment containing a surprisingly small giant with extended silver fingers. “Caterpillar”, what else’

Gasoline poured on the bodies of Fafner and Mime. “Shell” or maybe “BP” would be more appropriate? Gold ring and Tarnhelm. Definitely “Tiffanies”. I can see how Newt racked up half a million there. It had to have been a Tarnhelm. Pity it didn’t work for the poor guy. Ah well! View from the back of a moving train “Amtrak”.

I’m sure I’m missing lots of other revenue raising opportunities. How could I forget, Siegfried is looking for a woman. What a chance for “Friend Finder. Com”.
